0-2 YEARS OLD, THE FIRST TEETH

TEETHING

Dentition is a long step which starts from the 7th month of pregnancy (in the womb) ans usually ends around 2 years. This step is for the child one of the first places of great pain.

SYMPTOMS OF THE FIRST TEETH : WHY DOES IT HURT ?

Before the release of the first tooth, teeth apply a pressure on the gum and pierce slowly to emerge. This usually leads to a nervousness but also to an inflammation manifested by a red blistering at the baby’s gum. The baby “doubles” his gums.

GUM MASSAGE

Gingival massage is a nice action for the baby. It stimulates the gums, soothes the pain, helps to reduce inflammations and irritations : the baby is relaxed.

The soft and creamy texture of BUCCOTHERM® Teething Gel facilitates and enhances the action of massage, while providing the efficiency of its natural ingredients to heal and soothe the pain due to teething.

2-6 YEARS OLD, THE MILK TEETH

MILK TEETH DEVELOPMENT

The first teeth are temporary teeth, named “milk teeth”. They have a very particular appearance :very white, small, tight and delicate (their roots are not yeat fully calcified). Their very convex shapes, especially in the molar zone, lead to the formation of dental plaque in the neck. Because of the enamel of teeth, thinner and more porous than permanent teeth, tooth decay spreads faster.

PROTECTION OF MILK TEETH

Between 1and 3 years old, one brushing before bed is sufficient. After 4 years old, the child can brush alone 2 times a day. Brushing must be from gums to teeth, without forget to brush inside. Parents must control that the child brushes efficiently and that it does not swallow the toothpaste.

FLUORIDE

Fluoride is a trace element of the human skeleton and dental tissues. It strengthens tooth enamel and protects from tooth decay by reducing demineralization and acid attacks. To avoid changes in enamel structure (such as fluorosis, ie white and yellow stains on the teeth), fluoride must be dosed carefully. Dentists recommend 500 ppm fluoride for children between 2 and 6 years.
Even if mil teeth have a short life, it should not be overlooked. Healthy and complete denture is essential to chew, eat and have a strongh permanent teething.

7-12 YEARS OLD, THE PERMANENT TEETH

PROTECTION OF PERMANENT TEETH

The loss of milk teeth is caused by the appearance of permanent teeth under the milk teeth. Contraty to baby teething, permanent teething is not painful. This loss is the same for all children : first central incisors fall (about 6 years old), then lateral incisors, first molars, canines and secon molars finally.

BRUSHING OF PERMANENT TEETH

When appear first permanent teeth, we need to change toothpaste and toothbrush. New teeth need a toothbrush adapted to their size and their position, and a fluoride amount higher than for children under 6 years old. From this age, brushing after each meal is essential and must be at least 3 minutes.
